I could argue pro or con, but I think the reality is that it’s a two-way street. Experience is the interpretation of patterns which we then express in our art.
Experience gives us the material from which to create art. Whether the result is a pattern depends upon how you define pattern. Some art is amazing because it seems to defy traditional pattern.
